Our Mission . . .

To improve the quality of our judiciary by removing political considerations from the judicial selection process
and by ensuring that the process of disciplining and removing judges is effective and meaningful.

What We Do . . .

Educate the public about the paramount importance of the judiciary and its role in protecting our constitutional form of government.

Document the nature and extent of judicial incompetence, abuse, and dishonesty and the failure of judicial conduct commissions and
screening panels to protect the public.

Network judicial activists and legal reform groups around the country to promote citizen involvement, concerted action, and
protection for judicial "whistleblowers".

Track media coverage of issues of judicial selection and discipline, working with reporters and editors to provide accurate coverage.

Testify before public and private bodies involved in judicial issues.

Initiate and support legal action in the public interest to advance the goal of a quality judiciary, free from political influence.

MEMBER UPDATE:

ALR regrets the passing of Bob Matherson, Friday,
December 13th, 2007, at 6:30pm.

Bob was the owner of The Oak Beach Inn
and many other nightclubs on L.I.

He was a financial sponcer of ALR and donated
the ALR truck.

My eulogy for Bob Matherson, read at his wake 12/15/07

It's obvious by looking around tonight, that Bob belonged to so many of us. We all shared a piece of his indefatiguable spirit.

The Bob I knew always enjoyed a good challenge. For it was then that he felt most alive: when he conquered the obstacles in life.
"There's plenty of time to sleep when you're dead," he'd quip, whenever I admonished him to stop pushing himself so hard.

He was astutely aware that his opponents' weakness was always the lack of drive and determination that he possessed.
He was a formidable foe.
He understood that the world worked from 9-5, so he worked Noon-to whenever, for whatever it took.
With dogged determination, he relentlessly pursued his every goal.

Fourteen years my senior, he ran circles around me. He inspired me to push myself harder, to demand more from life.
No obstacle was a good excuse to quit. He simply didn't accept any excuses.

No garbage collection today & the garbage was piling up? Get a huge truck & haul it away yourself.
Newspapers wouldn't accept his ads? Run your own printing press.
Don't like the style of glasses offered as barware? Make your own glasses.
He accepted NO excuse for failure in himself or others.

He met many playground bullies along the path in life: There was Robert Moses, the "Master Builder", who ruled Long Island at one time.
Yet Bob thrived; his vision survived the challenge of the Almighty Moses, much to Moses' surprise, but as expected by Bob.

Then came Al D'Amato, the mob, the State, The County, The Town. His sheer persistence mowed them all down like mere bowling pins.
He'd do the time---whatever it took. For this was the true key to his success: dogged determination & sheer persistence.

But sadly, after 30 plus years of business successes, Bob met the most formidable of his foes: Cancer.
He fought the disease with the same persistence & determination with which he fought all his other battles.
Bob wasn't accustomed to losing, after applying his sheer persistence methods.

But after 65 years of living life to its fullest & never resting, there's plenty of time to sleep now.

The world is left a little less colorful, a little less determined while you sleep.

Our worlds have been injected with your unique way of looking at things, your indefatiguable spirit.

You fought the good fight, Bob.
Now it's time to sleep.
Rest in peace...

The legal profession is the most corrupt business in America today!
