“Justice works best when the public is watching—stand with us, take a seat in the courtroom, and help ensure accountability for every American.”

Americans for Legal Reform is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting transparency, accountability, and fairness within the legal system. One of the most powerful ways citizens can support these values is by participating in our Court Watch Program.

Court watchers attend public court proceedings simply as observers. Their presence demonstrates that the public cares about fairness, due process, and accountability within the justice system.

Courtrooms are public institutions, and when citizens observe proceedings respectfully and responsibly, it helps reinforce the principle that justice should not only be done—it should be seen to be done.

Our volunteers attend court sessions to quietly observe and document proceedings. While court watchers do not participate in the case itself, their presence can make an important difference. Judges, attorneys, and court officers are aware when members of the public are present, and that visibility reinforces the importance of maintaining transparency and professionalism within the courtroom.

You do not need to be a lawyer or legal professional to participate. All that is required is a commitment to respectful observation and a shared belief in the importance of an accountable justice system.
