Americans for Legal Reform is a nonprofit volunteer organization dedicated to promoting transparency, accountability, fairness, and public confidence in our legal and judicial systems. One of the most meaningful ways citizens can support these values is by participating in our Court Watch Program.

Court Watchers attend public court proceedings as neutral observers. Their presence demonstrates that the public cares about fairness, due process, respectful conduct, and accountability within the justice system.

Courtrooms are public institutions. When citizens observe proceedings respectfully and responsibly, they help reinforce an important principle: justice should not only be done—it should be seen to be done.

Our volunteers quietly observe court proceedings and record their observations in accordance with all applicable courtroom rules. Court Watchers do not interfere with proceedings, provide legal advice, or advocate for either party. Their role is simply to observe.

The presence of members of the public can encourage greater awareness of the importance of transparency, professionalism, and respectful conduct throughout the courtroom.

You do not need to be a lawyer or legal professional to participate. All that is required is a willingness to observe respectfully, follow courtroom rules, and share our belief in the importance of a fair and accountable justice system.
